marine growth protection system

Since our inception in 1955, we have been at the forefront of innovation, inventing the world’s FIRST and widely adopted electrolytic marine growth protection system utilized by the global maritime industry.

The MARELCO™ Guardian system revolutionizes marine protection using impressed current anodes and a sophisticated control panel. Copper marine growth (MG) and aluminum trap corrosion (TC) anodes are strategically placed within the seawater system or pipes, ensuring comprehensive coverage. The control panel allows precise control over anode amperages, dosage, and duration, providing optimal protection.

How Does It Work?

During electrolysis, the copper MG anodes release ions in small concentrations, carried by the seawater to exposed areas of the vessel. Simultaneously, the aluminum TC anode releases aluminum hydroxide, acting as a flocculant for the copper ions. This unique combination creates an environment that prevents the accumulation of nutrients on surfaces, discouraging the growth of barnacles and other macrofouling organisms. Continuous protection is ensured as long as untreated water does not enter the system after the anodes.

Anode replacement occurs every few years, typically during scheduled drydocks or by divers. The cost efficiencies vary depending on specific circumstances, but the MARELCO™ Guardian system offers a cost-effective antifouling protection and corrosion control solution. It reduces operating costs, minimizes downtime, and extends the vessel’s lifespan. In fact, annual savings are often sufficient to recoup the capital investment within two years or less.

Our electrolytic marine growth protection system can be easily customized and implemented at any stage of a vessel’s life. It is designed for self-management, providing convenient and efficient ongoing protection.

Trust EMCS Industries to enhance the performance and longevity of your vessel through our advanced MARELCO™ Guardian system.
