Derek Knox

Derek Knox (Product Specialist)

In 1973 Derek and two colleagues gave some thought to the barnacle problem on his pleasure craft. His yacht, the “Moppet,” became the trial vessel to refine and develop existing ideas about and systems using low frequency sound as an antifouling strategy. Hull Tender International, as it was called, marketed, and sold their system under the name Hydrosonic Hull Tender and Fincantieri, BC Ferries, Alaska Marine Highway, amongst others, were its first adopters. In 2016 Derek sold Hull Tender International Inc to EMCS after a serendipitous meeting between EMCS and the Alaska Ferries Corporation chief engineer who introduced Derek and Trevor Tasker. The two set out to develop and improve the low frequency acoustic antifouling product, and Trevor insisted the improved solution be named ‘NOXX’ as an acknowledgement of Derek’s interest, time and investment in the product.
